Official: Russia’s Turkish Stream project still relevant
KAZAN, Jul 18 (PRIME) -- Russia’s projects with Turkey, like the project for construction of the Turkish Stream natural gas pipeline, are promising and still on the agenda, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich told reporters Monday.
“Anyway, these projects have not been cancelled, they are still promising. We always take into account risks connected with security, and we will look into that. But I think that these projects are still on the agenda from the point of view of economic profit,” he said.
There was a failed coup attempt on July 15 where the military nearly took control of the country. In December 2014, Russia cancelled building the South Stream natural gas pipeline, which was supposed to carry Russian gas to Europe bypassing Ukraine, and decided to redirect all gas supplies to Turkey through the future Turkish Stream pipeline. But the talks on the project stalled as relations between the two countries soured.
